Ok, I admit, I'm not the most healthy eater.   I have three major food groups - meat, potatoes and junk.

I just don't like vegetables.  Not a big fan of fruit either.  I've tried to eat them, but I just can't seem to get in the habit of it. Now from time to time, I get a little nervous about it, thinking that if I keep this up I'll be dead before I'm 50.  So I go on these healthy streaks.  I try to eat more vegetables and cut down my beef and junk intake.

The vegetables give me an upset stomach and I find my energy levels plummet.  Once I give up and eat a burger or two, I feel better.  Of course, I figure it's just that my body's not used to it, so eventually I try again.

So from what I hear on the news and health shows, there are three major things that a bad diet can contribute to - high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and to a lesser extent, cancer.  I've known for a while that I've got low blood pressure, so that's not a worry.  I'm not too worried about cancer yet, but as I get older I'll be first in line for all those unpleasant exams.   That leaves cholesterol.  This is the one that I figured would be my biggest problem, leading a life of a poor diet.  So the last time I went to see a doctor, I got them to check it.  I got the results today.

Normal cholesterol levels in a human range from 3.9 to 5.7 (don't know what the numbers mean, but that's the range).  My cholesterol level was 4.09.  I have low cholesterol.  The doctor jokingly said that if it was much lower, I'd be dead.  I stared at him dumbfounded for a second, muttered 'cool' and left his office.

I don't get it.  I figured I'd at least be on the high side of average, not well below average.  I'm beginning to think that somehow, in my genetic makeup, I'm more of a carnivore than most people.

At least that's what I'm going to tell myself from now on.

Time for another burger.
