Idaho Lookout - August 25, 2001
Idaho Lookout is near New Denver and Sandon in British Columbia. It's a great place to see some of our spectacular scenery. We drove out there early morning from Castlegar. We were in a friends jeep and we needed it because the road up the mountain isn't an easy one. It's a steep, single lane, gravel road and it's probably best to have four wheel drive if you go. (Of course, that didn't stop the guy in the rental car ahead of us.)
Where is it? Right about here:
If you can find Sandon, you can
find Idaho Lookout.
Here are the pictures. Click on them to see a larger image.
These three are of the surrounding mountains that we could see.
This is the small lookout tower at the top. And the troop of scouts that were there ahead of us.
That's us. Well, except me. But someone had to take the picture.
Yes, that is snow down there.
In this photo, you'll see the path we walked up. It would normally be an easy walk, but the air was quite thin up there making it difficult. (By the way, this picture makes an excellent Windows background. Email me if you want the original 1280x960 version.)
If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend visiting Idaho Lookout. Also, visit the Cody Caves and Ainsworth Hot Springs. There is an excellent tour of the Cody Caves, which only cost 15 bucks a head. And of course Ainsworth, by far the best hot springs in the province.
