Trip to Portugal - Aljustrel



Here are some photos taken on a trip to Portugal I took in April 2000.  I was doing some work at a small mining town called Aljustrel.  It's in the southern part of Portugal - about an hour and a half drive away from the southern coast.

view_from_casa200.jpg (202559 bytes) Stepping out of Casa 200, this is the view of the city.  Every building has the white-wash walls and the red shingled roof.  The hill in the background is where I took some of the following pictures.

This picture is a view of the entire city.   The hill on the left is covered in olive trees.

    bytes) Another view of the city.  The road shown here is one of the few paved roads.  Most of the others are cobblestone.
aljustrel_view_from_hill.jpg (182226 bytes) The fenced in area shown here is the cemetary.  I went down to take a look and found that all the tombs were above ground.
